Director of Digital Direct at Nike, Matt Hanlon, takes our judge’s Q&A.
Do you have a favourite app or website, in terms of the design and user experience?
When I was living in the US, the insurance market is fascinatingly archaic at times and most obviously rife for development. Then lemonade.com came along which blended a simple offering, with great design. A simple experience for consumers. Very different to any other competitor. Very powerful.
Which industries, in your opinion, tend to deliver the worst user experiences, and why?
Not sure any particular industry stands out on its own as they often have the odd good one, apart from insurance which is pretty bad as I mention!
What has been the greatest game changer within UX and usability over the past 10 years
Obvious things to say like visual search or voice, but I think the development of more responsive design websites is something that marketeers now take for granted and has had a massive impact on user experiences for brands.
What do you think are the biggest challenges companies face utilising UX?
Serving a global consumer on a more personal level is the ultimate goal. Understanding their local needs and serving them efficiently…but it is a lofty goal.
Do you have any UX-pet peeves?
2 clicks, when it could be 1, 2 pages instead of 1. Seriously!
And finally, if you could have any superpower what would it be – and why?
One super power is hard, but I would want to be Superman, clearly, by far the best super hero there is!
