New TFL Journey Planner Crowned Best User Experience of 2013 at UXUK Awards

Honoured for delivering the best user experience overall, the new TFL Journey Planner joined a host of winners revealed last night at the inaugural User Experience UK Awards during a prestigious event held at Ogilvy’s spectacular Cabot Square venue in Canary Wharf.

Founded to recognise the most innovative and exceptional cases of user experience and user centred design, the UXUK Awards ceremony welcomed Fred Warren – Managing Architect at Microsoft – to deliver a fascinating talk entitled, ‘The Future of Design; Co-ordination.’

Attracting high profile industry support and involvement, the UXUK Awards offers teams the opportunity to promote major achievements and celebrate success. The winners in each category underwent rigorous analysis by the judging panel and all entries were reviewed and deliberated upon by a number of top-ranking UX specialists and digital experts.

“Those shortlisted and the eventual winners of what were hotly-contested categories can congratulate themselves for producing entries of the highest calibre. Each entry went through a meticulous judging process and it took my fellow judges and I a great deal of time to make our final decisions,” explained Jon Dodd, CEO of Bunnyfoot and member of the judging panel.

With every whim catered for by Ogilvy’s award-winning inhouse services to the highest standard, the spectacular evening saw a diverse crowd of teams from top brands, UX practitioners, designers and industry advocates party hard into the night as champagne and animated discussion flowed freely.

Making the most of the celebration were brands including Barclays, which netted the top spot in the Best Innovation category; Bloom.fm, which came top of the Best Entertainment and Best Touch Experience categories; Oxfam, which seized Best ROI; TFL, which won the Best Information category and RBS/NatWest which took home the prize for Best Transactional Experience.

Others seen to be enjoying the entertainment on the night included teams from British Gas, Manchester City Council, Easyjet, YPlan, Cineworld, Open Data Institute, Lambeth Library, Boden, Construction Industry Training Board (CiTB) and NHS Resolution Booster.

The hard-fought Best Overall User Experience award entered by UX agency We Are Experience went to Transport For London for its new beta version of Journey Planner, demonstrating an exceptional user experience that adeptly marries the needs and expectations of users with the objectives of providing a lot of information in a seamlessly integrated, innovative design.

Boasting a splendid turn-out, a top-rated keynote speaker, and entries of the highest calibre, the evident success of the inaugural UXUK Awards serves to firmly establish the event as the highlight of the UX industry calendar.

Making sure all attendees did not leave empty-handed, organisers and sponsors of the UXUK Awards 2013 offered discounts off leading industry software, and handed out luxury goodie bags containing a swag of cool gadgets.

Dodd concluded:
